Steve Martinez may hail from Dallas, but he’s proud to call San Antonio home these days. At eighteen, he began a five-year stint in the Marine Corps. Steve always had an interest in foreign languages, and testing showed that he had an aptitude as well. Soon he found himself stationed at the Presidio of Monterey, California, where the Defense Language Institute transformed him from speaking a little “house Spanish” into a full-blown Spanish linguist. As such, he’s available to help his Spanish-speaking clients navigate the complexities involved in some aspects of the loan process.
With an eye on life after the military, Steve wisely took advantage of the SkillBridge Program, which offers soon-to-be Veterans training in the form of internships and apprenticeships in various businesses. Ideally, that business would then hire the Veteran, which is precisely what happened when Steve interned at Aligned Mortgage. But his history with the company goes back even further than that. He had attended a seminar led by Chris Cano, one of Aligned Mortgage’s owners, and was so impressed with the company that he and his wife used it when they bought their home. The couple had such a positive experience closing with Aligned Mortgage that Steve knew he wanted to work for the company.
As a loan officer for Aligned Mortgage, Steve appreciates the opportunity to meet one of his primary goals, which is to help Veterans realize their dreams of homeownership through education. He often speaks to Veterans who don’t think they could ever own a house, but Steve sees his job as changing lives and making them better, so there’s great satisfaction all around when a couple of months later, a Veteran is closing on their home.
Steve loves spending time with his wife and young daughter when he isn’t facilitating homeownership for his clients. And when he and his family aren’t tracking down the many natural walking trails San Antonio has to offer, Steve is pursuing plenty of other physical activities, including rock climbing.
Our mission is to aggressively serve veterans and their families through education and facilitation of the VA Home Loan Benefit while advocating for our local military and veteran community.
